Librarian
We are looking for a qualified Librarian to join our team for the 2025-2026 school year. The Librarian is responsible for implementing strategies in the library to achieve the mission of The Day School at HP Pres – partnering with families, educating the whole child, and providing a nurturing Christian environment
Job Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Library Science or closely related field
- Strong knowledge of children's literature
- Ability to instruct and manage students in developmentally appropriate way
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of early childhood development
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage acquisitions, processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of library and media resources
- Perform all the administrative tasks of keeping a library orderly, up-to-date, and functioning properly, including use Follett Destiny management technology
- Maintain the children’s library, professional development library, and parent lending library with books and materials that support The Day School curriculum.
- Oversee and assign duties to parent volunteers
- Plan and implement read-alouds that help students develop a love of reading and books
- Plan and implement lessons that teach children basic library-use skills
- Plan and implement lessons that engage children in reading comprehension and re-telling activities
- Create and update reading lists for all ages
- Engage all staff and students in school-wide features, such as author of the month
- Support and advise Parent Council run annual Book Fair
- Invite parents into the library
- Integrate technology in the teaching/learning process as appropriate
- Develop and maintain an environment that is safe, clean and conducive to learning
- Manage student behavior and implement discipline according to The Day school policy
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials and facilities
- Establish open lines of communication with students, the Director and other colleagues
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
- Exhibit professional judgment and responsibility at all times
- Participate in staff-development to improve job-related skills
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, committee meetings, and work sessions as required by the Director
- Follow all rules, regulations and policies of The Day School
